Beavers Student Day: Phoenix, Arizona and San Diego, California

Beavers Student Day, Arizona

On April 20, students from Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Central Arizona College and Purdue University toured the Loop 202 P3 Project in Phoenix Arizona. 

 
Connect 202 Partners, LLC is providing design, construction and 30 years of maintenance services for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway. This project is the first freeway project procured under Arizona’s public-private- partnership (P3) statute and ADOT’s first design-build-maintain project ever. The $1.77 billion project is the largest highway project in the state’s history and funded by a combination of Regional Area Road Fund revenues, Highway User Revenue Fund revenues and federal funds dedicated to the Maricopa County region and ADOT.

The project includes 22 miles of new freeway, 4.5 miles of improvements to I-10, 40 bridges, a pedestrian bridge, 13 interchanges including 2 half diverging diamonds, 11 miles of sound walls, and a 6-mile shared use path. Completion is scheduled for late 2019.

The project is a joint venture of Fluor Corporation, Granite Construction Co., Inc. and Ames Construction, Inc.



Beavers Student Day, San Diego

On April 27, Civil Engineering and Construction Management students from Cal State Fullerton, San Diego State, Long Beach State and UC San Diego toured the nearly $1 billion Mid Coast Trolley Project in San Diego.

 
This project is the site for The Beavers Student Day tour this school semester. The $1.2 billion project extends the Blue Line eleven miles north from the current Old Town station to the University of California’s San Diego campus. It involves the construction of four aerial crossings over Interstate 5 including a signature bridge at the university. The southern seven miles are being constructed adjacent to the second busiest commuter rail alignment in the U.S. The project also includes eight new stations, three along the beach communities in the heart of San Diego, two aerial stations on the UC San Diego campus, and three more aerial stations inbusy commercial districts.

The project is a joint venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Inc, Skanska and Herzog Contracting.



ABOUT

The Beavers was founded in 1955 to promote goodwill and friendliness and to encourage and support entry of promising individuals into the heavy construction industry. Heavy Construction Careersand Heavy Construction Jobs are initiatives of the Beavers. 

The Beavers host Student Day tours for 50 to 100 civil engineering and construction management students and faculty members, from colleges and universities where The Beavers provide academic scholarships.


The day begins with a briefng of the work they will see. The students embark on a site tour, escorted by members of The Beavers who are executives in the construction industry. Everyone will then return to the briefing point to enjoy lunch and discuss the project.
